Where the dwarves are simply being dwarves
I’m in a kind of dreamy/whimsical/romantic mood today (hence all the Strictly Ballroom and stuff) and decided to post my very favorite very sweet song by my very favorite band, OK Go :) And rather than post their actual official video for it (which is a great animation drawn on toast - you should totally check it out), I posted this from sleepovershows because I wanted to focus on the song a bit more instead of watching the super-cool/trippy animation.
Also, in case you now think I’m (and they are) very emo, here’s an awesome/super-fun performance they did of “A Million Ways” on MADtv:
(PS: I’m ridiculously excited because they’ve said they’re coming up with a new album and will be touring again!)

Strictly Ballroom
Whilst never breaking any kind of new ground in moviedom, SB takes the tried and tested formulas of rebellion, romance against the odds, personal journeys and families and mashes them up with its quirk. Quirk and satirical humour at defcon 5 in this, Baz Luhrmann’s first big screen feature. I fell in love with this movie at first watch, the whole thing is a total delight from the chemistry between Scott and Fran to the hilarity of preposterous characters such as Ken Railings and pompous inflated judge Barry Fife. Fran’s journey and metamorphosis from wallflower to a championship winning dancer in particular is great and yeah ok the denouement is about as obvious as my love for the Bernal is but it’s pure feel good and I defy you not to be swept away by its unique charm.
This actually smells like my childhood memory of my dad, hahaha. Irish Spring and Old Spice with maybe some Gillette or Barbasol undertones.

“…You and I, Sam, are still stuck in the worst places of the story, and it is all too likely that some will say at this point ‘Shut the book now, dad; we don’t want to read any more’.”
“Maybe,” said Sam, “but I wouldn’t be one to say that. Things done and over and made into part of the great tales are different. Why, even Gollum might be good in a tale, better than he is to have by you, anyway. And he used to like tales himself once, by his own account. I wonder if he thinks he’s the hero or the villain?”
“Gollum!” he called. “Would you like to be the hero, now where’s he got to again?”
